David
Youngsmith
David Youngsmith had his own family law practice in San Francisco
from 2002 until 2006. He represented clients in all aspects of family
law litigation practice. Before starting his practice, David spent
15 years at Matthew Bender & Co., Inc., a leading provider of
law practice and legal research tools, where he was the Managing Editor
of the company's national family law product line. David was responsible
for several prestigious publications, including California Family
Law Practice and Procedure, the California Family Law Trial Guide,
the California Family Law Monthly, California Juvenile Courts Practice
and Procedure, Lindey and Parley on Separation Agreements and Antenuptial
Contracts, Modern Child Custody Practice, and Representing the Child
Client. David was also the creator of "Family Law Developments
and Strategies," an annual live seminar sponsored by Matthew
Bender and presented at several California locations. David has received
various editorial awards for his innovations and contributions to
the creation of family law practice tools.
In addition to his family law practice and legal publishing experience,
David has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at Golden Gate University
School of Law, where he taught Legal Writing and Research. He is
a panel member of the First District Appellate Project, through
which he represents indigent clients in dependency appeals to the
California Court of Appeal, First District. David is also a fee
arbitrator for the Bar Association of San Francisco Fee Disputes
Program. David belongs to several professional organizations, including
the ABA Family Law Section, the State Bar of California Family Law
Section, the Bar Association of San Francisco Family Law Section,
and the Bar Association of San Francisco Barrister's Club, Family
Law Section. David was the Chair of the Barristers Club Family Law
Section from 2003 to 2004.
David holds a J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law (1984),
a B.A. in English from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst
(1977), and an A.A. in Journalism from the University of New Haven
(1975).
