Jenny
Wald
Jenny Wald graduated from Hastings College of the Law in 1997 and
has practiced continuously in the area of family law since that time.
She was the recipient of two American Jurisprudence Awards in Contracts
and Family Law and received an Honorable Mention award for her Moot
Court Brief. Ms. Wald was the Submissions Editor for the Hastings
Women's Law Journal, and published her note on the legal treatment
of lesbian mothers and the use of reproductive technologies to form
alternative families, Outlaw Mothers, 8 Hastings Women's L.J., 169
(1997). Ms Wald graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bowdoin College in
1989 with a B.A. in History where she received the James Bowdoin Scholar
Award, in recognition of academic excellence.
After law school, Ms. Wald worked as the Staff Attorney for the
Honorable Donna J. Hitchens and the judicial officers of the Family
Law Department of the San Francisco Superior Court. She came to
the firm in 1998 and handled all aspects of family law cases for
traditional and non-traditional families. In September 2001, Ms.
Wald completed mediation training with the Northern California Mediation
Center and has mediated dissolution and other family law disputes.
Ms. Wald spent one year, 2002-2003, working as a child custody attorney
for the Center for Families, Children, & the Courts of the Judicial
Council of California, where she drafted Rules of Court and Judicial
Council forms, and reviewed legislation affecting the administration
of justice and policy issues facing the juvenile, family and probate
courts throughout California.
Ms. Wald returned to the firm in 2003, and continues to focus on
complex issues involving community property, parentage, child and
spousal support, and the legal aspects of move-away child custody
cases. She handles domestic partner dissolutions, parentage cases,
and the legal implications of reproductive technologies. Ms. Wald
specializes in legal research, legal theory, and drafting briefs
in complex family law matters at the trial and appellate level.
Ms. Wald was responsible for drafting the firm's briefs to the California
Court of Appeal and Supreme Court in cases involving issues of first
impression: K.M. vs. E.G. (2005) 37 Cal.4th 130; In
re the Marriage of De Guigne (2002) 97 Cal.App. 4th 1353, and
In re Guardianship of Olivia J. (2000) 84 Cal.App. 4th
1146. In Fall 2005, Ms. Wald published a law review article on the
landmark same-sex parentage cases decided by the California Supreme
Court, Legitimate Parents: Construing California's Uniform Parentage
Act to Protect Children Born Into Nontraditional Families,
Journal of the Center for Families, Children & the Courts, vol.
6, 2005. Ms. Wald's practice includes consulting, limited scope
representation, negotiating and drafting premarital and postnuptial
agreements, mediation, alternative dispute resolution, and other
collaborative approaches.
